No public demo of World of Anterra is officially documented. The game's Steam store page lists a 2026 release date, and its listed features — single-player and co-op play, achievements, controller support, Steam Cloud, Remote Play Together and Family Sharing — do not include a demo. What the developers have described instead is a demo built for Kickstarter backers, which was still in production as of the 2026 announcements covered here. Nothing in the official material says that this backer demo has been released, or that it will be made available to the general public.

The Kickstarter Backer Demo

The clearest official statement comes from a Steam announcement dated 2026-03-04, which says the studio's "main focus now is on finishing the features and content for our Kickstarter Backer Demo." At that point the team described most of its members as deep in bug fixing while others worked on content and polish.

The announcement does not give a date for the backer demo, does not describe its contents in detail, and does not say whether it will ever be distributed outside the Kickstarter backer group. Those points are not officially documented.

What the developers have said about demos

A later Steam announcement, dated 2026-08-09, acknowledges that "gameplay footage, launch dates, and a demo are at the top of everyone's list." It then states plainly that the upcoming Developer Fireside would not specifically cover those items, while inviting questions during the event.

That is the studio's own framing: interest in a demo is recognised, but no demo release was promised or scheduled in that post. Anyone claiming a date for a public demo is going beyond what 81monkeys has officially said.

What you can download now is not a demo

According to the game's itch.io page, the downloadable file offered there is "WoA Teaser Assets Bundle 1," a small package of concept art, a high-resolution "Dragon Eye" profile avatar, and desktop and mobile wallpapers. It is a promotional asset bundle, not a playable build.

The same page, according to itch.io, lists the project as in development and hosts an early teaser bundle rather than gameplay. The itch.io page is also where the studio points readers toward its Kickstarter campaign.

Release date and launch plans

The Steam store page gives a release date of 2026 for Windows, and no price is shown on the US store listing in the facts available here. The store description emphasises a handcrafted open world, a non-linear story and quests, grid-based combat with quick-time actions, and an interface built around tactile items and icons.

On the marketing side, 81monkeys has publicly tracked wishlist growth through 2026: 80,000 wishlists in a 2026-05-29 announcement, 100,000 in a 2026-06-08 post, and 150,000 in a 2026-08-24 post that noted the studio has "nothing for marketing at this time." Those milestones explain the game's visibility, but they do not change the demo situation: as of the documented announcements, no public World of Anterra demo has been confirmed.
